It was only a matter of time before I began such a blog but better late than never. Traveling and talking to people from various backgrounds has always fascinated me -- I'm always surprised by the little ways in which people from polar opposite backgrounds share slivers of common ground.
quick illustration using the English word for 'what?'
nini - in Igbo
nani - in Japanese
ne - in Turkish
nu - in Hebrew
while each word is not exactly the same, they're not 100% dissimilar ... how's that possible? If there's a common string that runs through the way four different groups ask 'what?', then what else could they share?
If you know of any more of these little commonalities or other ways to say what, do share ...
